• I have just moved two seperate installations of wordpress to a new server.

The old server had seperate control panels, so each installation of wordpress had its own .htaccess file.

The new server has a single cpanel and each installation of wordpress is setup in its own subfolder.

As I have copied everything across to the new server, including the original .htaccess files, I currently have three .htaccess files – one in each of the wordpress installation subfolders, plus a blank one in the main www folder.

Is this correct, or should each installation of wordpress just be reading from & writing to a single .htaccess file in the main www folder?

    Cheers,

    MC

  • The .htaccess for WP installs should be in their own folder – at least that’s what the gurus are saying around here…

    Thanks Moshu,

And will the .htaccess files from the old server be ok on the new one or should i try creating fresh .htaccess files?

    Cheers,

    MC

I’d say it never hurts to make a new one – anyway you have to update your permalink settings after the move.
(but just is case: you could back up that old one…)
