• Hello all,

I’m trying to move from a custom WordPress.com domain to www.remarpro.com so I can install plugins and customize my site. The current website is https://www.mcdieselfarm.com. It’s a custom domain I purchased through WordPress.com. I registered with Bluehost and used their One-Click tool to install a WordPress site using the same domain as my original site (www.mcdieselfarm.com). The installation was successful, but when I go to log in to the Admin section using the new generated password by the install it tells me the password is incorrect. I can log in using my password for the mcdieselfarm.wordpress.com but it does not link me to a self-hosting site. Do I have to create a junk URL for the install and redo all the mapping? Is there no easy way to move a website with a custom domain from wordpress.com to www.remarpro.com? Please help.

    Thanks,

    -Matt

  • Matt, you may need to point or transfer the domain that you purchased through WordPress to your Bluehost server. Here is a support article on WordPress.com that should help get you started:

Move Your Domain to Another Host

You can’t really have two WordPress sites that use the same site URL, which is likely the reason why the password generated for your Bluehost WordPress installation doesn’t seem to work — you’re probably seeing the login screen for your WordPress.com site.

I should also say that all of this won’t migrate your entire WordPress.com site to your Bluehost one — Bluehost has a support article on just this topic:

    Migrating an Existing WordPress.com Blog

Ken, thanks so much for your help. I was able to use your links to get it sorted out without having to change the domain. Turns out I had used the wrong name servers to start with. Whoops. Appreciate the help!

Hi I seem to be having a similar problem, but I have already transferred by domain and received a confirmation from my new host. I am trying to log in with my new credentials, but it says my password is incorrect. My same email was used for my wordpress.com account for aliceincookingland.com. When I try to log in with my old credentials, I just am back on the wordpress.com site. Help please!

@ccotner – could you start a new thread please? These forums work better that way.

And include a link to your new site.
