    Hi guys,

a dautning task, but I have to tackle it. I want to move my current wordpress.com blog https://escapology.eu to www.remarpro.com. I want to also change the design and implement the Avada theme. Since there will be a lot of changes involved and a lot of things to be checked before redirecting or putting everything live, I have the following question:

Is it possible, that I move content over to my www.remarpro.com installation, then set everything up, check content, tweak the design if needed etc. and then, for the last step, put it online so my users will land on the newly designed site. Until this point, before I am done with everything, I would like to have my old blog at wordpress.com running. I want to avoid users to land on my newly designed blog without stuff being finished or not working.

I hope you guys understand what I mean. I am not good at all this tech stuff. I hope you can help me out here. Have been procrastinating way too long.

    Thanks so much! Philipp

    Hi Tara,
thanks, but I had already read this article. The basic proces of moving the blog across platforms is clear to me. My specific is more specific though. My question is, if I can transfer content and test switching the urls. How can I do this? Thanks a lot?

Essentially you’d have to set up a temporary domain at your new host, like test.yourdomain.com, do all your setup and content migration, then when you’ve tested it and it works, you’d then do another migration and cutover to your actual domain. Make sense?

Why not develop the new site on your local system? That way you can keep your old/current blog running while you’re working on your new site, and they won’t get in eachother’s way.

    Hi John,

i think your solution makes sense. But honestly, I have no idea how I could to that. I am pretty much clueless and the task becomes more daunting than before. It appears to me that this is not doable without a lot of extra work, which would be ok, but also some in depth knowledge about configuring domains and migration. I wish I would have started with www.remarpro.com right away ….

I might have found the solution just now, still not sure. But this video seems to offer a solution. What do you guys think? That should be it, no?

Philipp, you don’t want to follow that video. I think you need to talk to WordPress.com as to how you’ll actually move the content over here, have you spoken to them? https://forums.wordpress.com

    (@jgardner03)

    That should work, yes…

Hi Andrew, why do you think I should not follow that video? I haven’t spoken to the wordpress.com guys yet since I thought it is a www.remarpro.com issue. Maybe I will post my question over there as well ….

That video is about moving WordPress(.org) once you’ve already got it set up.

ooh… forgot you said wp.com. Good catch Andrew

Hey guys, thanks for your help. I just posted on wp.com. But one more question on the process described in that video above:

What if I do the following steps:

    1. Install my theme
    3. Set it up like described in the video
    2. Import the content of my wp.com blog WITHOUT changing nameservers. Only import of content.

Couldn’t I then work on the blog without people accessing it and my old wp.com blog still running? Or would there be problems with i.e. the links in my blog etc.?

Are you asking WordPress.com to remove your .com blog? What is it that’s worrying you, that your WordPress.com site will go offline?

    Thread Starter Philigran

    (@philigran)

The thing I am worrying about is this. I will move my blog at wordpress.com to www.remarpro.com. Once I mhave moved it, my visitors will land on the new platform without anything been tested and still lots of tuning to be done. This I need to avoid at all cost.

So the question is, how can I transfer my content, work on the platform, the theme etc. while my original blog at wordpress.com is still active?

You can’t actually transform your WordPress.com site into a self-hosted site, they are completely separate entities. So, unless you’re actively terminating your WordPress.com blog it will continue to run.
