Moving from localhost to remote host

Hi all,
When I install wp on my remote host server, it resides inside a dir “wordpress”. Hmmm. So as to have wp accesable if someone types in just my domain name (normal) I moved all the wp files and dirs to the root. Is this the right way to accomplish my goal, or am I supposed to do something like a meta refresh from a index/default file in the root pointing to the wordpress dir?
