• I need some help. I have spent a few months redesigning my current website with a new theme. I have the new site locally hosted on my computer so I can build it and customize it without risk of breaking my live site.

What is the best way to go about switching from the old to the new site without losing my old blog posts. How do i move my local host work to my page on blue host.

Structurally the designs are nothing alike and i’m just not sure where to even start. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks Esmi. I have another related question….

I was having an issue with a part of the theme and since it was locally hosted the tech person couldn’t help so I had to move it to a sub-directory on my domain to get help.

So, now I’m moving from a sub directory to my root directory. I found a really helpful video showing how to easily do that and I don’t think I’ll have any trouble BUT…(now here’s my question FINALLY)…

I can’t lose my blog posts from my current site (which is more than just a blog and is currently the root directory), would I follow the same instructions as listed on that link to move the blog posts to the new site and THEN move the new site from the sub directory to the root directory?

(I hope that makes sense, I am quite the novice so don’t necessarily have the language to describe it)

    Thanks in advance ??

OK – you’ve lost me. ?? Is the site that is currently in a sub-folder the site that you want to update from your local copy?

LOL, I knew it sounded wonky! ??

The local copy is no longer an issue, I had to take it off my local server and put it in a subdirectory for tech help on the theme.

My new issue is that I would like to move the site from the sub-directory to the main/root directory. So the website currently hiding at https://www.myurl.com/dummy i would like to move to become my root directory at https://www.myurl.com. I think I have that covered (thanks to your link) but am curious about my blog posts (though in writing this I THINK I have it figured out)…

I think that I should export the blogs from myurl.com and import them to myurl.com/dummy and THEN move the sub-directory blog to become the root (move myurl.com/dummy to become live at myurl.com)–is that correct? It seems to be the only logical order but i’d love some confirmation ??

    Thanks!! ??
