Moving entire site

I currently have a website, with a wordpress site in the /blog folder of that site. I purchased a nice WordPress theme, so I’d like to make my entire site a wordpress site, so I was wondering if I could just move the entire wordpress site to the root folder of my normal site (once I’ve finished adding content – I’d like to minimize any downtime on my current site). Is this the way to do it? If not, is there another step in the process?
