• Hi,
I am getting ready to relaunch a site and would like the current members (8800) to get a level 1 membership free for a year.

I’m a bit confused on how to do this. I don’t want new subscribers to have access to the trial level 1 –

What’s the best way to give this to our current list only? After a year, they will be paying the membership fee.
    Thank you! Theresa

Would it be correct to move these subscribers to level 1 – generate a free trial to level 2 that only they can see with conditionals on the welcome page…
then all new subscribers would be at level 2…
    ?

I’d move all your current users to level 2. Because user levels are hierarchical, they would then automatically be able to access level 1 stuff anyway. If you want, you can then also create special content for them at level 2.

Then you can sign up new free members at level 0, or have them pay for level 1.

This way, you also know immediately who was an original member, and who is new.

So, If I move them to level 2 how does it force a renewal after a year?
There isn’t anything at level 1 for them to access. I move them to level one, they see it in their account, they upgrade free to the level 2…and they are on trial.
New subscribes go to level #2 not #1.
I’m pretty sure I can use the ‘if user is’ not ‘if user can’ in the conditionals to prevent level #2 members from seeing the trial link for current members…
So my idea was they can access the trial link and they will be on a renewal already.
Do I have something backwards or wrong? ?? Thanks!

No, that will work perfectly fine. I was just assuming that you didn’t want to force them to do anything until the year had expired, whereas you evidently want to force them to do something now.

Thank you! I see what you’re saying. So I think that’s a better idea, and I moved them all into level 2 using the export/import.
Now I’m confused about the EOT since they didn’t fill out a paypal form. Did I do this wrong?
Will it know to now charge them after a year? Confused!
    Thanks Theresa

You can just set the EOT for each user on their page in the back-end. (The relevant box is towards the bottom of the page.) But you have a year in which to do that!

And by that time, the s2Member devs should have added automatic EOT notifications, so that your users will be told about the need for renewal automatically. (It’s scheduled for the next update.)

You could also set the EOT by using the Export/Import again, and adding in the EOT details in the appropriate column.

Yes, it might be quicker to just get it done. I don’t remember seeing the EOT in the line. I exported into Dreamweaver and did a search / replace. I’ll take a look in the morning. Thanks so much! Theresa

All worked great. Exported, changed the column in one paste and re-imported and it’s set.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciated it! Theresa

Good to hear! Thanks for letting us know!
