• Hi,

I just migrated my WP site to a new server. I uploaded the database and changed the wp-config file (the site is able to access the database). I uploaded all the files and kept the same structure.

BUT… when I tried it out, the theme didn’t load. All I get is a list of links that should be my drop-down menus. no pictures, no background… The admin site is somewhat more functional but also doesn’t have any of the theme characteristics. I checked both the admin and the database, and the theme I would like to be used is the one that is listed as the current one.

My guess is that the database doesn’t know where to find the theme (or specifically the css file). But why not? How do I fix that? Any thoughts?

I wasn’t able to export my information_schema database to the new server? Could that be the problem?

Sorry for the barrage of posts… but also, any explanation for why the theme loaded when I accessed the site with the nameserver pointed to the old server, but now that the nameserver is to the new server it doesn’t load…?

like if you go to ramahoutdoorsorg.ipage.com you can access the new server (but with nameservers pointed to old server). The theme loads! Why only with nameservers pointed away?

You shouldn’t have to export/import information_schema. MySQL uses that internally and will alter it as need be.

Should I just give up on this transfer?

Only if you want to spoil the fun.

but now that the nameserver is to the new server it doesn’t load…?

The limited evidence I have suggests that there is something wrong on the new server that is preventing the stylesheet from loading (and other th ings). I don’t have the access or the time to do any real investigation though.

I spoke with the hosting service and they said they often see issues with importing wordpress to a new host (but I think he based that on issues involving a new domain name).

There are a few standard issues with moving WordPress, but what I saw before was not any of those issues. What I saw with your site, I don’t think I’ve ever seen before– which is probably why I don’t have any straight answers for you.

thanks for all your help! Unfortunately, I think fun time is over…

Oh boy, maybe I can pickup where he left off..

    the site is getyourchildready.com

It been maybe 2 days since the database was moved, and 12 hours since the site was uploaded on the new servers. (GoDaddy)

The Theme was fine but I couldnt update stylesheets (because I realized they were pointing to the old files) which led me to this topic.

Once I deleted the old files (I commit :p and I can afford for the site to be down) the theme went to heck.

I cannot login or anything since /wp-admin redirects to the old login address.

    Thanks in advance.
