Moved WP and trouble

  • I recently took over a domian and WP blog for a local company, however I’m having no end of trouble getting it too work.

    It was working fine under the old cpanel host. I copyed the whole directory and make a copy of the database.

    Set new DNS for domain, uploaded directory and database. Changed database name/user/pass in config etc.

    The first page loads fine https://www.deliciousentertainment.com.au/,
    however everything else is missing.

    I can’t even get into wp-admin, it just says Error 404 – Page Not Found. However all the files are there in the directory on the server.

    If you had any kind of rewrites (permalinks) setup you must disable .htaccess and reconfigure permalinks when it goes live

    How do you disable .htaccess in the WP directory in cPanel? I’m guessing that must be the problem.

    I’m not really sure what they mean by disable .htaccess, but if you change the domain in the database, you must do this:

    If you are using Permalinks, go to the Administration > Settings > Permalinks panel and update your Permalink structure to your .htaccess file…

    I forgot to mention, click the Save Changes button even if you don’t make any changes to your permalinks.

    Domain didn’t change, just moved to a different host.

    Also only the home page works, I can’t get into /wp-admin. It returns 404 page not found.

    An alternative way to log in is with https://www.deliciousentertainment.com.au/wp-login.php. When I tried that I got the following (but hard to see) error:

    Fatal error: Class ‘CF7_DateTimePicker’ not found in /home/acans/public_html/deliciousentertainment.com.au/wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7-datepicker/contact-form-7-datepicker.php on line 59

    Try disabling that plugin by temporarily removing the /home/acans/public_html/deliciousentertainment.com.au/wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7-datepicker/ folder and see if that helps (you can move the folder out of plugins and into the parent folder).

    I moved that plugin to the parent folder however now the page just returns a 404.

    Okay, a few other things you can try one at a time and then retest to see if you can get to your login page:

    1. Try removing your plugins by renaming your plugins directory to plugins.MISSING.

    2. Try removing your .htaccess file by renaming .htaccess to .htaccess.MISSING.

    3. Follow the steps in the Codex document Changing The Site URL.

    Hi Brian,

    Renaming the plugins directory allowed me to access the login page. Upon logging in and renaming the plugins directory back it seems to be SafteyPress that was hiding the admin login pages. wp-admin, admin, login, wp-login.php.

    Also pressing save without saving anything in permalinks has restored navigation.
