I just moved my site to a new host (WP content files and database) and got it working with dbase name changes etc.. mostly…
My sub-domain sites are no longer working. domain.com is working but anything.domain.com returns me to the default website page of my host (redirecting to anything.domain.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi).
I have created a wildcard A record and ensured the .htaccess is correct, the site remains at the root of the same domain it was before..

Why isn’t wordpress catching the url and displaying content?

  • The URL is never getting to WordPress. Something in your DNS configuration is pointing your subdomains to a folder other than public_html.

Thank you.. as obvious as that sounded a small change got it working.
Instead of making an A record in the advanced (cpanel) domain I instead made a * entry in the sub-domain editor pointing to /public_html – this was visible as a *.domain.com A record to the IP in the advanced list (as I am sure I had created and tried before) but this time it worked.
