• In late 2010 I moved a WP site & DB (Not sure what version of it is) Ever since I have not been able to login as my admin user. I have tried using the WP function to re-set my password and that process does not work. I either get a access denied or permissions error.

    It is URGENT that I get in and change an old post that someone is legally threatening me about. If I can’t get in I will have to take down the entire site which is an archive of thousands of posts.

    If someone has instructions on how to change the password/user info via MyPhpAdmin or some other MySQL utility so I can login again I would be MOST GRATEFUL. I am under legal presure and need to do this ASAP!

    Thanks!

    Hey thanks esmi. Tried the “Through phpMyAdmin and sucessfully changed the password for the admin user. When I loing however I now get the following message for bothe the wp-admin/index.php and profile.php page.

    “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page”

    Where in the DB can I change permissions or is there some other remedy?

    Using Phpmyadmin (or another MySQL management tool), first backup your database. Then navigate to your wp_usermeta table and locate the meta_key called “wp_capabilities” for your user_id. Change the meta-value for this record to:

    a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}

    That is what it already is for “wp_capabilities” all three users with ADMIN privileges. I did refresh it just the same and still have the same message “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page”

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.
