Moved blog URI – now some requests are 404’ing

I moved my WP “up” a level to handle requests at the web root by changing Blog address (URI): to just site.com from site.com/blog in Admin -> Options -> General. Works great.
Then I changed all the links on my site to go to site.com/ instead of site.com/blog
Still works great.
But in my logs I’m seeing requests for /blog and others off that directory, which are 404’ing. Example:
https://www.appleswitcher.com/blog/2006/12/05/useful-wordpress-plugins/
Question is, how to fix this in .htaccess? (sorry, I’ve tried tutorials, I just don’t get it)
Oddly, this seems to work:
https://www.appleswitcher.com/blog/wp-trackback.php
