• Hello!

A few days ago I tried to move my wordpress blog to a new server. The “easy way” (save old files, upload saved files to server, save old database, upload old database to new mysql-database) didn’t work, so I installed a complete new version of wordpress on the new server, moved my design to the new wp-content directory and replaced the new tables of the database SEPERATELY by the old tables from my old server. Then I changed the siteurl and the home paths. Well, actually, everything runs perfectly fine, although I had to adjust the old tables on the new server manually, because it seemed as if the old options weren’t retained during the movement. For instance the auto_increment in the posts and categories tables concerning the post-ID wasn’t retained.

Well, finally I still got a problem. The posts didn’t keep their category after the movement. Instead my database gave them all the default catagory “0” (uncategorized). How’s that? I didn’t change anything. Can you help me? Maybe you know a way to “repair” this error? And maybe someone knows, why the old table options (like the auto_increment) haven’t been taken over.

    Thanks a lot!

    Martin
