Moveable type just went open source.

  • How do you think this will affect WP? I love WP, and will stay true to it for as long as it’s supported the way it has been for the last few years that I’ve used it. Any thoughts?

    I doubt it will affect anything at all. IMO, the move to GPL is too little, too late.

    MT was open and free 3 or 4 years ago. Then they went to paid versions. That killed their ecosystem, and going open source now won’t let them recover that. Too many people have already moved away from MT and won’t be interested in going back.

    I’m curious, though, if WP will borrow anything from MT. I don’t know a thing about MT; is any of it worth using?

    I just installed a copy of MT on my own server just to play with. Thus far it doesn’t seem to offer anything over WP, at least UI-wise. Installation was, if anything, a bit more difficult than WP’s.
