• Hi

I have my news posts appearing fine, however be default WordPress makes them appear from the root homepage eg https://www.domain.com/news-article

I have a main blog area setup and I would like to move the articles URL so that they appear under that eg https://www.domain.com/blog/news-article.

I Know you can manually edit the URL in the post area, but that would be a pain to keep repeating and some might be forgotten about.

Does anyone know how to make WordPress auto move posts under a specific area/parent page so that the URL would appear as above?

    any input would be great
    thanks

  • I’m not sure I’m fully understanding your question, but I’ll do my best to give a few options that might solve your problem. If you can post a link to your site that would be helpful.

If you set up your news article page as a subpage of your blog page that should do the trick.

    or

Under settings in your dashboard, go to permalinks… you can click on “custom structure” and adjust there… this will also affect page links not just post links however, and probably isn’t an ideal solution.

    Thanks for the reply KrissieV

The site is just being developed at min so dont have an external IP yet.

But what is happening, when I post blogs it auto adds them to the following URL. https://www.domain.com/blog-post-name

However I created a page called latest news and would want the URLs for all blog posts to appear under that ie https://www.domain.com/news/blog-post-name.

If I use the permalinks as you said I can add in the path /news/ to appear and the post appears under the right area. I added in ‘/news/%postname%/’ into the custom area

However when you said all pages will be effected by the path change do you mean all posts rather than pages? I wouldnt want my pages to be effected by that and at the min it doesn’t seem to have affected the current pages URL

I think the part that is missing is in your settings. If you go to settings > reading in your dashboard, you want to set your “Front page displays” setting to a static page and make sure your posts page is set to the page you have selected. Then if you update the permalinks settings as described above they will only affect your posts, other pages will appear relative to the home page.

You can see an example of these settings working at nocsae.org. The Media Newsroom section is the “blog” section and the articles show up with /media-newsroom/ in the url.

I tried to use the front page displays, but when i picked latest news as a static page what it did was replace all the content on the homepage with the latest news.

I’m happy for the homepage to stay as is, its just the path to the news article I’m hoping to change so that they appear under ‘news’ in the.

In the nocsae.org site, they have what I am looking to do as all their posts have a URL https://www.nocsae.org/media-newsroom/post-name/

id like to make mine to the same and so appear under https://www.domain.com/news/post-name

I think the custom structure in the permalink settings might be the best option
