• I have a page using php5, that I should move to a new server with php8. Now I am not sure how to manage this.
I think, I should install the new WordPress-Version on the new server. After that, which files have I to copy from the old site and which not? And load the database backup.
In which sequence shoult it be done?
    Thank you for helping me.

  • there is no need to install a new version of WordPress. your current version as long as it’s the latest WordPress should work.
On our web hosting server 3alienswebhosting.com we have the option to pick the PHP version you want to use. PHP 8 is one of them. We also offer moving websites over.
PHP is installed on the server, not in WordPress.
also, make sure there are no php.ini files in your site directory.

The WordPress on the old site has not been updated for years (was not my responsibility). And if I move the backuped site to the new server with the php8 and also a new database version, it does not start und tells me errors.
So, if I try to do an update at the old site, I’m not sure, that the old site will further work.
