Can more than 1 category be shown on a single page? We have tried using the category shortcode of
    [faq-with-categories?category=”category name 1″]?
    [faq-with-categories?category=”category name 2″]?
But it only displays content from 1 category, not 2 or more on the same page.
We want to be able to display “general categories” and then certain specific categories on different pages as well. For example: “General Fashion FAQs”, “Only Womens Clothing FAQs”, “Only Mens Clothing FAQs”, etc.

Secondly, can they be sorted alphabetically or numerically? They seem to be displaying in order of date last added at the top which isnt necessarily preferred.

Hello wiseupmarketing, thank you for contacting me.

About the categories: I understand your wish, did not think about that beforehand. This maybe also has impact on the FAQ schema output in the head, which may not be duplicate. Will have to look into it. Will get back to you here.

    Kind regards,

    Joeri

If our requests are not easy to do, they can be left for another time. We may end up just using a different plugin if it takes too long. Not your fault at all.

Your plugin was clean and simple which is why we liked it and tried it first.

Hi @wiseupmarketing, I had to check the code to remember how I originally thought this would work…

You can add several categories to a FAQ post, and in that way it can be shown in those different lists. This is another approach than your suggestion but I think it can cover your usecase. For instance a faq about mens fashion gets the category ‘mens fashion faq’, but also ‘general fashion faq’ added. That way it will display in both lists. You can also add ‘faqs about vests’ to it, and it will display there too. That way it is probably more flexible than the other way around (where the shortcodes would dictate which categories can be displayed).

The faq plugin is programmed to follow the existing categories no matter how deep they are nested. Because there is no ordering in the categories in WordPress you can set that in the faq plugin itself by dragging and dropping them, per nested level (of course dropping between levels is not possible) (this is under FAQ->Order taxonomy).

Please let me know if this makes sense.

Also please let me know if something is not clear, the readme is maybe a bit sparse.

To be clear: showing more than one category in the page is indeed not possible, and I have to say that would complicate the plugin a bit, so I would like to leave that possibility out. Adding more categories to a post is easier and also WordPress native functionality, so using that would be my preference.

By the way / I forgot to mention: on the FAQ->Order taxonomy page, you can also add a page from your site to a specific taxonomy (category…) by typing its title in the input box (suggestions are shown and filtered when you start typing). That way you can display all faq posts that are added to that category by using just the shortcode [faq-with-categories] on the page, without having to supply the category there. This might be quicker and more intuitive, and allow for easier moving / maintenance of the faq lists.

Unfortunately that doesnt quite work. Our preferences as to show two or more categories on a page as per the initial example (For example: “General Fashion FAQs”, “Only Womens Clothing FAQs”, “Only Mens Clothing FAQs”, etc.), not all FAQs. All good, sounds too difficult to change.

Thank you for clarifying. I think I misunderstood. I now think that you mean you want to show different lists of faqs on one page, like the womens faqs next to some content, and the mens faqs next to some different content on that same page? Currently it is indeed not possible, because of how the plugin works. I’m sorry that I am currently not able to address this due to time restraints, it sounds like a good feature. I will keep it in mind. Thank you for contacting me.
