More than 300 queries to the database and higher load time

I am using a professional theme and my home page is showing 365 queries and load time is 6 seconds. Other pages has around 60 queries.
What is the average load time for a site with lot of contents? How should I reduce number of queries? I have already deleted number of calls in the header.
