• Hi – I’m just starting out with WordPress – got it installed on my Mac using MAMP (which I’m also having a few blips with..!) But the question for now is, I am trying to use the More tag on draft post – and when I preview it it’s not working – onto the ‘front’ page of the theme. Any clues or help appreciated please! Thanks (p.s I have tried a few of the tips on the forum – like looking at the Theme indexphp – but did’nt get very far with that.)

  • The more tag doesn’t modify the post’s appearance when viewing it individually. It works only when viewing the main index or archives (such as by author, date, or category).

    Maybe try this code instead?

    <!--nextpage-->

    Hi thanks for the reply, I”m actually trying the More tag out following instructions in a tutorial – the tutorial guy’s More tag works perfectly on the front page of his blog, whereby he can have several headings for different posts (and a paragraph/photo etc) on the front page and the More or Read more tag allows the reader to click on it to read more of whichever post they like.

    So I don’t know why mine is not working, using the same theme etc… could it be because I am previewing the changes I make on ‘sample page’ – at least that is what it says at the top of my front page when I preview/publish it….

    Will try that code to see if it works, but concerned that that will just take reader to next page rather than continuation of the post?

    Thanks.

    If you are editing a post and click “Preview post” or “Preview changes”, then you’ll be looking at that one individual post, where the more tag has no effect. The post needs to be published and viewed from the homepage for the “Continue reading…” link to appear.

    This information might help explain the difference between more and nextpage.
