More tag for WP 2.7 not working

I’m using WP2.7 with the Mandingo 1.38 theme and haven’t had need of the More Tag (Alt+Shift+T) before. Now that I’m trying to use it and it just isn’t working. Clicking on the “Click to continue reading…” tag makes the bar oscillate, indicating that WP is retrieving the page, however, nothing ever happens; the page just sits there. Selecting the title of the entry does bring the entire post up as a single entry. I’ve searched and tried the only thing that was relevant: resetting permalinks back to default. Nope, didn’t work and now I’m stuck. Thanks for any assistance ya’ll provide.
