• * The po/mo files in the folder wp-content/languages/plugin (I use a plugin to overwrite individual entries without creating my own locale files – this would require a footnotes_de_DE.po/mo)?

    * Wouldn’t it be good if one could also add a note to the title? I tried it, annotations can only be placed in the content.

Thank you for thinking about this!

Ok, hey, having a look in the expert settings shows: I can activate the footnote for the ‘the_title’-hook…

    Hi @nikelaos,

The language files are named without the domain because the plugin uses load_textdomain() instead of load_plugin_textdomain(). The convention about using the domain in plugins’ .mo file names does therefore not apply to footnotes.

Beside that, all language files, including de_DE.po, have had a thorough overhaul completed for current v2.0.4.

I’m sorry for the trouble you had through the title footnote feature’s default disabled status. This is being fixed for upcoming v2.0.5 enabling all hooks by default.

The downside in adding notes to titles comes from the title’s use in different places. E.g. it is used by WordPress to generate the tab title. Currently the whole note displays there as it is in the editor. Then in the menu. While the tooltips are currently working also for notes in the menu and in the title, the links are not, and the notes are replicated and numbered as 4 individual instances, with the 4???note in the title, then listed separately or combined as identical notes depending on that setting.

Instead—if this is able to meet your requirements—I’d suggest using a subtitle with a footnote. Else, a proper implementation of adding a footnote to the page title would be to have the note text inside a dedicated shortcode, then have this note appended at the end of the title as #1. Inner notes in page titles would then not be supported.

Do you request that feature? If so, I’d need to mention that it would add to a number of already pending feature requests.

    Best regards.
