    Greetings!

Just diving into this plugin upon a recommendation and I love it!

I’m currently working on getting something set up for a friend who has an existing blog and is not very blog savvy. She has a year+ worth of content, and during that time she really paid no attention to Title or Alt tags on her images, not realizing the SEO and user experience no-no that creates. So the titles are all the generic “DSC09323.jpg” and such. And there are NO alt tags whatsoever. She wants to go through evvvvverything she has and fix this manually. I’m trying to make it as painless as possible.

I found a plugin on Codecanyon that seems like it would do the trick, but (with respect to the author) it really offers nothing else beyond the initial “fix”, whereas MLA has great longterm viability to the blogger.

Does MLA currently have the ability to do something similar to this plugin? If not, is it something you would consider? If I am understanding MLA currently, the closest way to achieve this would be to go to the Assistant and then manually “Quick Edit” every piece of media? Naturally, it would be awesome to avoid all the extra clicks/steps by having numerous pieces of media and fields to update title/alt all on one page.

Either way, I really appreciate your time, and great work!

Thanks for your kind words and for your question. Thanks as well for the detailed explanation of your friend’s application and the reference to the “Editor for Attached Images Titles & Alts” plugin.

As you have discovered, MLA has “Bulk Edit” and “Quick Edit” functions in the Media/Assistant admin submenu. The “Quick Edit” function is the only way to easily make arbitrary changes to the Title and ALT Text fields on an item-by-item basis. There are, however, aspects of the Bulk Edit feature and the IPTC/EXIF mapping rules that might be of interest. In addition, the hooks MLA provides might help you make the job easier.

The key to automating portions of the update task is exploiting data already present in the images or the posts/pages they are attached to. If the images in your friend’s site contain IPTC or EXIF metadata you can use it to build Title and ALT Text values. I encourage you to read through the “IPTC & EXIF Processing Options” section of the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab for more information. If you can post a link to one or more of the images I can tell you if they contain data you might use.

If that’s not helpful, you may be able to use values in the post/page that the images are attached to. I am working on an example of this technique for an earlier support topic:

How to add a number to the title of images inserted in same post?

Using data from the parent post/page is one of the features of the plugin you found on CodeCanyon.

The Bulk Edit area allows you use a Content Template to compose a value from data in the item and its parent. See the “Content Templates” section of the Documentation for more information.

If none of the above suggestions are helpful, $18 isn’t a bad price for a plugin that more closely meets your needs.

If your have further questions regarding the suggestions, post an update and I will give you what help I can. I will leave this topic unresolved until I hear back from you.

Thanks for the detailed response, David!

You answered my question. I don’t want to inundate my friend with anything too terribly complex, just more efficient (quicker ‘item by item’ manual alteration)

It seems that MLA DOES make it a bit more efficient in that regard, with the Quick Edit feature! Not *AS* efficient as the other plugin, but a heck of a lot more so than vanilla WP!

    I’ll close this up.

Thanks again, and I’ll be using this plugin on all my projects!

Thanks for your update and for marking this topic resolved. If there is anything else I can do to help you get the most out of MLA, open a new topic and I’ll try to help you. Thanks for your good words and for your interest in the plugin.
