I’m doing some troubleshooting where images I’m bringing in from Flickr via another plugin (Justified Image Grid) are loading slowly. So, I’d like to know why I might use this plugin on my WP site. Might it affect images I am dynamically bringing in to my site (as per above) or is this just for images that have been uploaded directly into my media library?

What effect does this plugin have on thumbnails? Why would I use it?

    Thanks.

This plugin deletes all of the existing thumbnails/resizes of any image in your media library and re-generates them from the original upload. As for whether or not it will touch the images you are dynamically bringing in, if what you are using to do so uses standard WordPress hooks, it should.

Thx. But why would one want to regenerate thumbnails? Cache problem?

It could be any number of things. For a few examples:

    1. You created new thumbnail sizes or you have suppressed some thumbnail sizes and don’t want them clogging up your server
    2. You want to recreate them with optimization from scratch instead of optimizing the existing ones
    3. You’ve changed some of the dimensions of your existing thumbnails
    4. You have something like a new theme that has new sizes and your existing library doesn’t have those sizes available
