Right now, the only option I see is to disable/enable tags with or without the field itself required. Users can submit just about anything, and without a delimiter it’s one big tag. We tested a submission with a paragraph full of very bad words/spam, and even though it needs to be approved, it’s still something authors and admins have to see in the post archive.

Are there any plans to allow an option to choose existing tags while not being able to create new ones? Similar to being able to choose multiple existing categories? Similarly, an option to choose categories but not create new ones?

    Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve added to the list and will see what’s possible for the next update. For your questions:

    1) “allow an option to choose existing tags while not being able to create new ones? Similar to being able to choose multiple existing categories?”

Yes this is the main thing I will try to implement, it is a needed feature.

    2) “Similarly, an option to choose categories but not create new ones?”

Is it possible for the user to create new categories? I don’t think so. Currently the Category field simply provides a menu that includes all categories that you (the admin) have selected/enabled in the plugin settings. There is no way for the user to add/create new categories (unless I’m missing something). So not sure what you are referring to here..?

I hope this helps, thank you again for the feedback.

Just to follow up with this, the next version of the plugin includes an option called
“Use Existing Tags” to display a select/dropdown menu of existing tags (instead of the default text input). Should be available before the release of WP 5.4.
