More Blank Screen Shenanigans

  • I was having similar problems as many other people with installing WordPress. I uploaded, edited the wp-config.php file, and when I tried to go to wp-admin/install.php I got a blank screen.

    I know that I had PHP5 installed properly with mysql because other sites on my server using work fine. However, I coded all my sites using the new mySQLi extension rather than the older mySQL one. I hadn’t installed the plain old mySQL extension yet. Had me scratching my head for a bit…

    So if you have the same blank screen problem check to see if you are being to cutting edge! You can run mySQL and mySQLi extensions next to each other.

    And then I had to edit /wp-admin/upgrade-functions.php line 705 from

    if ($res[0]['Type'] != 'varchar(32)') {

    to

    if ($res[0]->Type != 'varchar(32)') {
