Monthly based sitemaps

Is there a way of stopping the plugin making monthly based site maps?
I;m sure this plugin used to make just one .xml site map for the whole site but now it seems to make lots and lots of site maps and I find that to be messy and not sure it helps SEO or google indexing.
Any advice please?
