Going to just slightly modify a question someone had asked about this before. Please help if you can!!

Today I linked my website to Google Analytics in the process of upgrading to the Pro version of MonsterInsights. The marketing agency before me hadn’t set up Google Analytics from the start from what I can tell (and I just now realized it.. oof.)

Before I upgraded and followed the bouncing ball, I DEFINITELY could see site data from the whole time the Lite plugin version has been there. I couldn’t see any of the add-on data, but I could check out page views, top posts, etc…

Once I updated the TXT record with our DNS provider, (Wix unfortunately – and it’s hosted on SiteGround), ALL the previous data that was showing up on MonsterInsights had disappeared once I upgraded to the Pro version of the plugin.

So prior to linking to GA, the MonsterInsights dashboard was full of info and then as soon as I linked it to GA, all of the information disappeared and its just started again from today.

    -.-

I’ve called Wix to see if they can resolve. Apparently it caused issues with our other DNS records and I’m now unsure about implementing more changes. I’m consulting with a contractor because I don’t want to make things worse.

But I really want the data that was available before, which was wiped by this process. I am needless to say not pleased with this turn of events when I was trying to prepare a presentation.

Thank you for ANY help you can provide, especially toward restoring the data that was previously available… I really don’t think it was from Google Analytics, I checked out account yesterday and it wasn’t even connected to the site. That data seemed to be from MonsterInsights from what I can tell.

I can’t even find the data in the native WordPress Stats & Insights.

    Heeeeeeeeeeelp

    Hi @lauralthj,

Don’t panic! Your data hasn’t been erased, MonsterInsights can’t do that.

Most likely what has happened is that when you went through the setup wizard you connected to a different Google Analytics property and that property is where you are currently storing your new data.

What you’ll need to do is go to your Google Analytics account and look for your other Analytics properties.

If you have more than one Google Analytics Account would you be able to try going to analytics.google.com and switching between your Google accounts until you see the correct property?

To switch between accounts/email, click on the icon on the top right of the page https://a.supportally.com/EQBiAQ

Once you find the correct property, make note of the email and make sure to choose that same email when connecting MonsterInsights to your Google Analytics account https://a.supportally.com/K1lG1p

If you have only one account you’ll need to look in there to find the correct property with your previous data.

If you had someone set up Google Analytics for you and connect it, you may need to contact them as they might have ownership and need to share it with you.

As for the DNS issues, you’ll need to resolve them with your hosting provider and potentially SiteGround as well to make sure they are correctly configured.

If you get stuck let us know!

    Thanks,
    Tim
