MonsterInsight breaks GA custom links event

I have links on my site like this

<a onclick="ga('send', 'event', 'Downloads', 'Click', '<?php echo $title; ?>', '0');">link</a>

but ever since I activated Monsterinsight these events no longer jump to GA. Why? Do I need to use your formatting (https://www.monsterinsights.com/how-to-add-google-analytics-custom-event-tracking-in-wordpress/)? Does that still input normal events to GA dashboard?
