    Hello,
I have the following issue with Woocommerce Square – if a customer uses the Square payment gateway for a purchase, it pre-authorizes the payment, but occasionally I have to modify the order manually, eg remove an item – which obviously decreases the order total. However, i this case, when I capture the payment, the original pre-authorized payment gets captured on Square, not the order total. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
    Thank you!

  • Hi there @dqr79

Best to authorize payment first, then edit (removing the required items), and proceed with a refund.

I trust that points you in the right direction, but if you have more questions, let us know.

    We’re happy to help.

    Hello anastas,

    Thank you for your response.

Are you saying that the flow I asked about is not gonna work and there is no solution for it, only the refund approach would work?

    Hi @dqr79

Yes, you’re correct. If you need to modify the order after pre-authorization, the recommended approach is to capture the payment first and then process a refund for the removed item.

It’s because there isn’t a built-in option to adjust the pre-authorized amount at this time. The Square API doesn’t allow for changes to the pre-authorized amount.

I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
