Modify wrong order number

    Hello,

    On the web shop, we had to do a restore from a backup and then we imported new orders created after the backup time, but we were unable to import one of orders, so I entered it manually. The problem is that it should have been the number 619, which has now been skipped, and when I entered it manually, the new number 621 was used. Even if it stays like this it is not too big a problem. The second thing I’m going to ask right now, if I transfer 621 to 619, will the next order get 621 or 622. I’m assuming 622, because that’s how databases usually work. If this is the case, then it doesn’t even make sense for me to switch to 619, when there will be a hole in the number sequence again.

    What do you recommend I do?

    You’re correct in your assumption that databases usually work in a way that the next order number will be 622, even if you change the order number 621 to 619. This is because WooCommerce uses an auto-increment feature for order numbers, which means it always increases, regardless of whether a number in the sequence has been skipped or deleted.

    Given this, it might be best to leave the order numbers as they are to avoid confusion in the future. However, if having a sequential order is critical for your business, you may consider using a plugin like Sequential Order Numbers Pro, which can provide you with a sequential order numbering system, filling in any gaps in the sequence.
