• I want to modify the permalink from default to “postname” after the website is in the air and many posts and pages are already published.
    Few questions:
    1. Does WordPress modify the .htaccess file in this case?
    2. Will Google modify the indexes automatically(though after a few days)?
    3. Are pages and post similar with regard to Permalinks?
    3. What do I have to do to compensate for the damage?
    Regards
    Itzik

  • 1. Yes. If you do not already have an .htaccess file, it will be created for you.

    2. Yes

    3. Can you clarify what you mean by “similar”?

    4. What damage?

    Thanks esmi
    similar:
the suffix “/?p=10” is used in the default permalink structure case.
Is it similar for pages, meaning it has a similar permalink structure?
    damage:
If Google fixes the ranking than I guise there is no damage…
    Thanks anyway

Is it similar for pages, meaning it has a similar permalink structure?

The default structure for Pages is ?page_id=10. when custom permalinks are used, all Page urls use the structure https://example.com/pagename – irrespective of which custom permalink structure you have chosen.

If Google fixes the ranking than I guise there is no damage

If Google is visiting your site regularly, it should have updated its index within a few weeks. In the meantime, all of the default permalink urls returned by Google will still work
