Now that mobile-friendly behavior has been required by all new websites for a few years, it is high time to rethink the built-in WP gallery.

Based on the gallery’s current structure, the rows and columns remain unchanged regardless on the screen size they display in. In this respect, the built-in WP galleries behave more like table rows and cells rather than the more modern grid system or flexbox objects.

There are certainly plugins which will create more web-compliant galleries. But since Automattic is constantly updating the core application, the built-in gallery could use some attention.

    Side note:

You were doing so well too.

But since Automattic is constantly updating the core application

    False.

Please do not conflate Automattic with WordPress, it’s not true. WordPress development is driven by volunteers. Some of those volunteers work for Automattic but that’s as far as it goes.

Sorry Jan, I didn’t know. Does this negate my point?

    Nope! Not at all. ??

I just didn’t want anyone else making that mistake.
