mod_rewrite and server load question

  • I am new to mod_rewrite/.htaccess but have heard that it creates a heavy server load.
    Is this correct? Would I get flak from my host?
    I would be using it for permalinks & google friendly urls.
    I would be revamping a site that currently gets 1000 page views/day… & hope to grow that number.

  • You won’t notice a difference. Of course it has more overhead than using nothing at all, but the difference is so small it’s insignificant.
