mod rewrite question — index.php to index.htm

Hmmmm, this is a weird one.

Does anyone know if it’s possible using some form of modrewrite to redirect index.php ONLY to index.htm (my static index page) without screwing up the rest of wordpress? E.g., affects index.php, but not index.php?blahblah

I’ve been playing with mod rewrite to this effect but … unsuccessfully.
