• How do you get a mobile view on the self-hosted version of this theme (Twenty Twelve) similar to the one available on the corresponding theme on wordpress.com by using the control in the mobile footer, as for my purposes this gives a much nicer mobile view than the one that comes directly with the theme (I have two versions of my site running, one self-hosted and one at wordpress.com. It seems a shame that I can’t get this view in the self-hosted environment. Is there a plug-in available to achieve this ? Or some other way of doing it perhaps.

  • Hi, what do you mean by the control in the mobile footer? When I view TwentyTwelve in a mobile screen width on my local install versus the one on WP.com, they look pretty similar in design.

In the wordpress.com version there is another control in the mobile footer where you can switch between the full site version (which gives the mobile version of the mobile responsive main Twenty Twelve them) or the mobile version (which gives a different theme, a mobile specific theme). This control only appears at the front-end and only on mobile devices. It’s on the wordpress.com package of Twenty Twelve but not on the www.remarpro.com. What I’m asking is how can I get that alternative mobile-specific theme to be available as an add-on (in addition to the main Twenty Twelve theme) on my www.remarpro.com package in the same way that it is at WordPress.com.

I have a feeling the add-on I’m seeking used to be available on via the jet pack plugin but has now been removed on the grounds that the main themes are now sufficiently responsive that the alternative themes are no longer useful (obviously I don’t agree with that thinking). If you’re aware of any alternative to jet pack that I could use I’d be glad of the information.

My main gripe with the main twenty eleven theme is that the text size is slightly too small and the line spacing slightly too wide on mobile compared to the mobile-specific option at wordpress.com. But it’s not so bad that I want to spend any substantial time editing CSS to put it right.

I have a clone of my self-hosted site as a free site on wordpress.com. I’ve not even shared the latter publicly in the past as I’ve used it only as a developmental environment to do things like trialling new themes etc. However, I’m now thinking of sharing it purely because of this much more attractive mobile-specific theme option not available on the self-hosted version – I may even consider ditching the self-hosted version and just switching to wordpress.com if I can’t find a more conservative solution.

Ah, I believe you are referring to the mobile theme that was setup in Jetpack:

    https://jetpack.com/support/mobile-theme/

However, they retired that option last month. There is another option:

Though it may not have the design to your liking.

I tried WP Touch but I didn’t like the theme. I wonder if there is a possibility of getting access to that same theme as is available at wordpress.com.
