    Good Day!

    Recently, SiteGround enhanced their anti-bot code.

    As a result, our dashboard data no longer displays correctly and our mobile snapshot displays SiteGround’s anti-bot page (i.e., it’s blocked).

    We already deactivated/reactivated your plugin and flushed all cache.

    Please provide a fix. My initial suggestion is that you guys need to coordinate this with SiteGround’s developers to whitelist your IPs and/or end points.

    This may help (from their ticket reply):

    The mobile snapshot in the SEO Analysis is cached from the third-party service that we use to show those images, so there’s nothing we can do from our side. We currently don’t have controls for that bot. You need to ensure to whitelist any incoming request from our third-party service (https://www.thum.io/).

    A quick online search reveals their User Agent is:

    User Agent:

    Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux aarch64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/97.0.4692.71 Safari/537.36

    To confirm, you can reach out directly to thum.io via email: support [at] thumb [dot] io

    Also, it would be great to look at all User Agents used by Rank Math.

    Update:

    (1) This item has been resolved. Resolved as follows: (a) Contacted SiteGround Support and asked them to disable their anti-bot on our site and, (b) Applied the solution(s) noted here: https://rankmath.com/kb/zero-search-traffic-error/

    (2) This item still not resolved. The anti-bot image still displays. We will wait one week to see if the image cache is purged and the correct snapshot is displayed. It would be great for the developers of Rank Math to integrate a cache purge button into your plugin to clear the image cache instead of waiting 1-2 weeks for it to clear by your third party.

    For now, we’ll close this topic as Resolved. We will reopen it if the image issue is not resolved within one week.

    Helpful: Before posting this update, we confirmed with SiteGround that their anti-bot feature was deactivated on our website, we cleared all cache and transients, we cleared everything per Rank Math’s tools, we re-ran Rank Math’s data fetch action tool, and we deactivated/reactivated your plugin. Also, we reached out to thum.io over 3 days ago via email for assistance (no response yet).

    Not a biggie, but strongly recommend you guys coordinate better with thum.io and SiteGround to fix this.

    Alternative: Switch to a mobile snapshot generator company that provides stellar support such as site-shot.com or page2images.com. As a minimum, one that provides a “bypass bot check” feature and great support. Worth exploring since many hosting companies, CDNs, and online SEO checkers are instituting their own bot checks.

    Update:

    Item (2) resolved today.

    Rank Math’s Mobile Snapshot module refreshed itself today and successfully displayed our website.

    Not sure if the issue was fixed following our stream of complaints — or — the two-week cache-refresh period estimated by RM.

    Either way, something should improve. Having no control of RM’s Mobile Snapshot cache doesn’t make sense.

    The snapshot updates when the cache is cleared and the tests are run again to fetch a new snapshot from the website.

    We’ll evaluate the situation based on the feedback and see if there’s something we can do about it either with this provider or possibly switching to a different one.
