    Hi there,

I think your plugin is great. We are using it on our website: hoodriveracademy.org One problem. The document embed is not mobile responsive whatsoever on either iPads or iPhones. Any ideas?

I emailed you a couple of screenshots to show what I’m seeing.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Adam,

We received your email and responded to that.

    Thanks for getting in touch!

I am experiencing the same problem – a Google document can be viewed on Android and desktop browsers but on iOS 8 safari on an iPad mini it only shows initial page and no scroll bars to view the rest of document. An embedded Google spreadsheet works as expected on this device.

Can you tell me if there is a way round this?

Harry, below is what I said to Adam when he got in touch. Sorry for the delay in replying – email is generally the best way to contact me: [email protected]. Thank you.

I’ve done some tests, and to be honest I think that it is mainly Google’s viewer that is (probably deliberately) restricting the functionality for the mobile browser.

I’ve tried it on a small-screen Android and it displays a sensible size, but won’t let me scroll. Looking back at other sites that do try to offer interactive embeds on mobile (e.g. embedded maps), it’s pretty cumbersome and you often end up finding you can’t scroll off the map at all since it always thinks you’re trying to interact with the map!

So I think this is probably intended behavior from Google.

Having said that, I’m not sure why your iphone only displays half the document horizontally – that could be a CSS/layout issue on your site. But that’s perhaps irrelevant given what I’ve said above anyway…

I was able to embed (“as Drive doc”) and view a PDF document on the iPhone with this plugin.

From experience, it’s only Google worksheet charts that are a problem with iOS (even using just the google publish copy/paste code).

@wealthcop, thank you for pointing that out.

The latest version of Google Drive Embedder (3.1.1) now defaults to embed ‘As Drive doc’, meaning that files such as PDFs are embedding using Drive’s native viewer rather than the separate Google Document Viewer.

Basically, these are just two different pieces of software, and I think you are right that the embed ‘as Drive doc’ option works better on many smaller devices. Anyway, you can try out both options and see which is best for you.

    Thanks,

    Dan
