    Hi.

Is there a kind of documentation for the MLA Yoast SEO Example Example? I ‘ve downloaded and activated it but can’t see any effect, likely because I don’t know where to look at. And the is no thread in the support forum which is linked to the example plugin…

Thanks for all your efforts, Ernst Wilhelm

In order to have full control about the gallery, lightboxes including any markups I would like to attach images to a post only over the submenu table and the field parent_id. Could this be an issue for yoast?

Thanks for your question regarding the “MLA Yoast SEO Example” plugin. Here are four earlier topics involving Yoast SEO and the example plugin:

index images in yoast seo sitemap

MLA no image attachments in sitemap

MLA Conflicts with Yoast SEO Sitemap

    MLA galleries and SEO

The current version of the MLA Yoast SEO Example plugin does one specific task. It looks in each post and page for one or more [mla_gallery] shortcodes and adds XML sitemap entries for each item displayed by the shortcode(s). It will work with shortcodes that do not require interactive input, i.e., do not have request: or query: substitution parameters.

As you can see from the dates of those topics I have not looked at Yoast or the example plugin in some time. I have just installed the latest Yoast SEO free version and run a quick test. The example plugin is still working as intended.

You can find more information about Yoast XML sitemaps here:

    XML Sitemaps – Overview

You should know that since I developed the example plugin Yoast has added a new, more complete/complex type of information as described here:

    Schema – Overview

The example plugin does not support this new feature and I have no plans at present to add it.

You wrote “I would like to attach images to a post only over the submenu table and the field parent_id.” As far as I know, Yoast SEO does not make any attempt to use the parent_id relationship. The only thing that matters for SEO is what actually appears on the post/page content, e.g., a gallery composed with shortcodes such as [mla_gallery] or a Gutenberg image or gallery block.

I hope that gives you the information you need. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding the example plugin. If Schema support is important for your application, post an update or contact me by email and I will investigate further. Thanks for your understanding.

    David.

At a later stage I will have a deeper look into the sources you’ve provided to me. This morning I found some tweaks tweaking with the Justified Image Grid plugin which I am using for long time but at this specific topic I always struggled with it. This morning I could overcome my barriers. ?? For now I am using the solution with Justified Image Grid.

    Your input is really appreciated.

    Thank you.

@ernstwg – I got interested in the Yoast SEO Schema support, did some research, and ended up completely rewriting the “MLA Yoast SEO Example” plugin; it is now version 2.00. The new version adds Schema support and implements a Settings screen with several option settings and a Documentation tab.

I have uploaded a new MLA Development Version dated 20221101 that contains the new version. You can find step-by-step instructions for using the Development Version in this earlier topic:

PHP Warning on media upload with Polylang

Once the Development Version is installed you must install or update and then activate the example plugin.

You are looking for the “MLA Yoast SEO Example” plugin. Find that plugin and hover over the title in the left-most column. Click the “Install” or “Update” rollover action, then go to the WordPress Plugins/Installed Plugins submenu and activate the example plugin as you would any other plugin. Make sure you have the latest version, 2.00, installed.

Once the Development Version and updated example plugin are installed and active you can verify the XML Sitemap and new Schema support. You will find a Documentation tab with quite a bit of instructions and information. In particular, the “Debugging and Troubleshooting” section in the Settings/MLA Yoast SEO Documentation tab tells you how to find and inspect the sitemaps and schema. I would be very interested in any suggestions you have about the documentation content.

This example plugin will be part of my next MLA version, but in the interim it would be great if you could install the Development Version and the example plugin and let me know if it works for you. Thanks for inspiring this MLA improvement.
