After updating Jetpack & submitting my news sitemap to Google Search Console, I’m getting this error:
```
Missing XML tag
This required tag is missing. Please add it and resubmit.
Parent tag: publication
Tag: language
Line: 11
```
Any help with this issue will be appreciated.

Thanks! You don’t seem to be using Jetpack and its Sitemaps module at the moment.

Could you try the following:

1) Go the Jetpack menu in your dashboard
2) Click on “My Jetpack” at the top of the page.
3) Click on “Disconnect Site from WordPress.com” if your site is currently connected to WordPress.com.
4) Confirm the disconnection.
5) Click on the Connect button to connect your site to WordPress.com again.

Once you’ve done so, go to Jetpack > Settings, and enable the Sitemaps module if you’d like to use it. You will of course need to disable your other Sitemap plugin before to activate Jetpack’s.

Let me know how it goes.

Is a connection to wordpress.com required for sitemaps to work? I am having the same problem and am not connected to wordpress.com and am only using markdown and sitemaps. JETPACK_DEV_DEBUG is enabled.

No, Sitemaps can be used without a connection to WordPress.com, and thus are available in Development mode.
