Missing www.root.com page

Hello,
– I’m using Theme: Twenty10 and am using WP downloaded onto my Dreamhost account.
– I’m only using “pages” and no “posts” in order to create a website.
– Right now I’m building everything under https://www.root.com/wordpress
– I don’t seem to have the ability to create a page that would be my landing page at https://www.root.com/wordpress.
– Nor am I able to create https://www.root.com/home – everytime I try, it makes it https://www.root.com/home-2

– I believe in both cases there may have been a page at one point that I then deleted. Can anyone describe how I can:
1) recreate the https://www.root.com/wordpress landing page?
2) delete and recreate OR revive the https://www.root.com/wordpress/home page?

I am new to this so please don’t respond as if I were a pro. :p
