I’ve got some experience with changing my themes, so I’m quite perplexed with this one.

I’ve got a new domain for which I’ve installed WP 2.1 (using Fantastico in my cpanel, hosted at HostGator). I downloaded the theme I’d like to use and went to upload it to my new site using my FTP program, but when I click on the site I want to upload to, there’s no WordPress directory. There’s just a folder for cgi.bin, which is apparently empty.

I’ve never had this happen before. What can I do to fix this? This is the first site I’m going to use as a CMS, and I’m learning all I can about that, and don’t really need any other complications. ??

    Thanks,
    Barb

  • Some hosts don’t let you add to or modify the fantastico installs.
I would one-click delete it and do a fresh install yourself.
    Or:

    Samboll,
I haven’t had a problem with my (about 7) other sites. I deleted it and reinstalled, but no changes. I can go into the admin and make changes to the default theme, but can’t upload to my directory? Strange. I think I’ll go check out your link. Thanks!

    letsimaginate,
Are all your other sites 1 click installs on the same host? – I will bet money they aren’t.

Re-read Sambols message. This host has created a custom 1 click install, which does not allow you access to make changes. You need to do a 1 click delete and do a MANUAL install (FTP upload WP to the server). Only then will you be able to do what you want.

    Obscure,
Actually, they are all 1 click installs on the same host. I have one main domain and a bunch of subdomains, and have the “baby” plan at HostGator.

I know I’m probably misunderstanding something here, but I’ve been able to upload themes and personalize them on all my subdomains, and I manage WordPress upgrades through one cpanel.

I did check out the site for which Sambol sent the link and will probably go that route, as it’ll be much easier for me. I just don’t understand why this one time it’s different, which is why I posted here. I haven’t done anything differently than before. ??

Did you check with HostGator to see why this one’s different?

Wellllll, apparently I did something wrong when I set up my addon domain. I went to delete my subdomain and start all over, and – to make a long story short – figured out my mistake. Now I’ve got it all set up.

    Thanks everybody for your help!
