• Hi,

have just upgraded to 3.1 but am having the same problem as many others with the vanishing visual editor. So far I have tried removing the plugins one by one and switching on/off the “disable visual editor” option from user profile. What else can I try?

am using version 3.1 on google chrome.

    thankyou

  • Quick note: I tried all the suggestions people provided and even after disabling all my plugins I still had the problem. It was not until I notice one person mention that WP-Stats-Dashboard caused their problem that I decided just to deactivate that one plugin. And it worked.

It is strange that deactivating all plugins did not work but deactivating WP-Stats-Dashboard did.

But what the heck is that?

@kbarncat – Just woke up on this side of the world to find that upgrading to 3.1.1 has fixed my visual editor issues. Hope you have some success soon ??

Cool!!! YAY!!! Maybe tomorrow, I’ll have the courage to try again –

I sat out for a month, during which my hosting company transferred to a new set of servers run by another company. Presto. Everything worked. So I wasn’t crazy, and I wasn’t stupid. Now, it’s all good. Nothing I did helped. It took the universe shifting.

Thanks very much muncken. Your tip on changing the sitreurl in the wp_options table worked for me!

I have my wordpress installed in a sub directory called “site” but the site url was set to mywebsite.com:/site. All I did was remove the “:” so it is now mywebsite.com/site

Now I can see and use the visual editor again : )

For info, my server is linux on 123reg. Hope this helps someone else.

Hi elastiboy Im really clueless as to what the wp_options table even is but im also on linux on 123reg and having the same problem with no visual editor. Could I ask a huge favour and ask that you walk me through the steps you took above? I have my wordpress in a subdirectory called “blog”. once i open that directory, what do i do from there please? I would be so grateful for your kind help…
    Kim

May I say again that I tried all the little tricks to no avail. When my hosting service moved to a whole new server array (and by that time, WordPress had gone 3.1.1) everything worked. So it may be that you can try everything under the sun, and you’ve got a server problem. Just sayin’ – so that you won’t eventually think you’re losing your mind.

Ah i fixed it guys! I went into settings, general settings, removed the “colon” making it an absolute path and it worked! Hooray! ??

Had this issue with an upgrade to 3.2.1 – just thought I’d let anyone with a similar problem know that in my case, disabling the plugin Embedly cured the problem.

I second what Roseberry said go into Settings -> General settings and if there is a colon ‘:’ in the end of the Site URL eg: https://www.mysite.com/wordpress: then remove it.

Seems to have worked for quite a few people
