I’m building a site for an organisation which requires individuals to be able to log in. As Administrator, I see the black Admin bar at the top. I’ve just logged in as Author, and the top bar is missing.

Previously, all roles were able to see it, and I am relying on it for folk to have access to editing their Profile and Public Profile, and also to log out. Some people have also been authors, as a simple way of managing events.

Why has it gone? And how do I get it back? I have recently upgraded to WP 3.8 and notice a lot has changed in the presentation of the UI – is that perhaps a factor?

If you’re talking about the theme’s top bar, check Frontier Options -> Display and make sure that “Enable the top bar” is checked.

If you mean the admin bar then I believe that is set on each person’s profile. On Dashboard -> User -> Your Profile then check Show Toolbar when viewing site The admin bar is not actually controlled by the theme.

“Enable Top Bar” is checked. That’s not the one I mean (still learning the lingo!), it’s the WP Admin one. Thanks for those instructions, I’ve done that for mine. I didn’t have to tick it before, so perhaps it’s a WP update change.

It’s tricky to get to a Profile without it, so I’d better go through as Admin and tick that box for everyone else. At least I know what to do now! Thank you.
