• Hello everybody

My host says the problem is with WordPress and vice versa.
The issue is this: when I try to upload an image, I get a ‘missing a temporary folder error’. And that sucks because I found some really stunning free stock photos I want to use.

Solutions I tried so far (without succes):
    – creating a wwwtemp folder map
    – changing wp-config.php permissions to 775 and next to 777, and the same for the ‘uploads’ folder, according to advice I found somewhere
    – adding this line of code to the wp-config.php:
    define(‘WP_TEMP_DIR’,’/tmp’);

Is there anybody out there with really great advice for an IT-dummie?
I am just a humble copywriter from Belgium, Europe.
A solution would be totally awesome and much appreciated.
Like that I can continue my design.

    greetings

    Leen

Goodness no, change the permissions of wp-config.php back to 644 or better yet, 440. You don’t want anyone else to write or even read that file.

Now, try changing the permissions of the /wp-content/uploads/ directory to 777. If that doesn’t work, move up one step and change the permissions on just the /wp-content/ directory to 777.

    Hello James

Thank you so much for your advice.

I tried changing the permissions for the uploads directory and the wp-content directory. But it’s still not possible for me to upload images.Or should I wait a few minutes before trying so changes can take place?

I read on this forum that the ‘missing a temporary folder’ issue has something to do with the php.ini file. And that hosts like Hostgator should be able to make that happen but some host dont. My host (a Dutch one) has been working for days to help me out on this issue. Which I appreciate. But I fear they dont know a solution on this one. Rather frustrating for both.

Should I direct my host to the php.ini thing?
Thank you forum crowd for helping me out.

PS My hosts also suggests changing path to: /home/deb73670/.cagefs/tmp or /.cagefs/tmp. Another possibility: /home/deb73670/domains/wondertext.be/tmp

Where in WordPress can I change paths?

Would you please quote the exact error that you’re seeing?

    Hello James

The exact error is ‘missing temporary folder’, I’m afraid there’s nothing else to it.

I guess I’d better switch to Hostgator. My Dutch host says they really dont have a solution and that ‘there are limits to their support’.
    So that is that.

I guess It’s ok – to have an ‘oversea’ host for a European website? Server-wise?

    Hm, ok that’s odd.

Try undoing what you did for “creating a wwwtemp folder map” and what you added in wp-config.php, then create a folder called “tmp” under /wp-content/uploads/.

Hi James thanks for your advice.

I reinstalled everything and I created a tmp folder.
Nothing worked out so far so I am moving to Hostgator.

I hope everything will work out with a different host.
For some people it’s the only solution for this issue, apparently.
    So worth trying.

Yeah, I’m reasonably sure you’ll have no trouble there, but please let us know if it happens again.

It usually happens when your account has just been restored with a backup.

    This is the solution:
    https://www.supportsages.com/blog/2014/10/cloudlinux-wp-missing-temporary-folder/

Your hosting provider needs to follow those steps.
