• I’ve created a new homepage and a corresponding ‘Front Page’ template.

In the new site editor, the ‘Front Page’ template includes the theme’s post query loop.

This does not appear when I load the homepage.

I’ve also added a ‘Latest posts’ element to the ‘Home’ page content item, just to see what happens.

The site loads the text elements from from ‘Home’ page and the ‘Front Page’ template, but none of the posts.

    I’ve disabled all plugins.

Any ideas what might be causing this behaviour? Thanks!

Hi @cantdosleepy – looks like the page linked above is password-protected, so I’m not able to take a peek at it directly. Would it be possible to remove the password protection temporarily?

That said, an internal URL like that normally isn’t considered the site’s front page, so it wouldn’t automatically pick up your Front Page template.

If you’d like to assign a special template to the URL you linked above, I’d suggest choosing the “Custom template” option instead.

Then, you can apply your new custom template to the proper page.

Let me know how it goes or if you need further help!

Thanks for the reply! Password plugin disabled.

It’s a duplicated instance of wordpress, installed in the /spring2023/ subfolder, while I work on a redesign of the site.

@cantdosleepy – Hey there, thanks for disabling the password.

If you set your test site to display “Your latest posts” under Settings > Reading, does your front page display correctly?

It does display the blog posts correctly when I update to that setting.

If that’s the best way to solve the issue, how might I edit this template so that I can add custom elements that only appear on the homepage? I’d like a blog page too, that includes the posts in a similar fashion, but doesn’t include the massive strapline.

    Thanks!

@cantdosleepy You should be able to add any special elements to the Front Page template and have them appear only on the front page.

For example, I added this Heading block to the Front page template and it only appears on the front page, and nowhere else:

    Site Editor
    Front end

Let me know how it goes!

If you are using a custom template, or the “front page” template, select your query block, and find the option “Inherit query from template”.
If that option is enabled, deactivate it.

Hi @cantdosleepy – just checking in to see if you’ve sorted this out, or if you need further help.
