On May 6, I noticed that some of my products were missing the descriptions (after a customer complained) so I looked into it and called HostGator. They told me that WooCommerce had done an update and there was a bug causing this issue. They assumed it would be fixed soon. It has been over a week, so I called back. I have counted at least 44 products missing the description (out of 310). They looked into it, sent me to WordPress who told me I needed to contact WooCommerce, that it was a plug in issue. I don’t know how to do that. All I could find is that I should post something here. I don’t know what I am doing. I have limited understanding of most of this. What do I do?

You go to Appearance > Themes > and switch or add a theme. Do a search for Storefront if not seen.

I added Storefront. Do I need to deactivate Astra? Nothing has changed.

Yes, switch out themes check and then see if it shows. If it does it’s your theme. If it doesn’t it’s an app

I can’t find how to turn Astra off… as I was clicking around… I got a pop up warning that tweaking my themes could break my site.. I don’t know enough about what I am doing… so I don’t want to make it worse than it already is. I’m sorry, I know you are being so nice and trying to help me… You have to understand that I am 66 and very limited in my knowledge and understanding of how all this works. I am lucky to have a website up and running. I know I did not cause this problem… but I am afraid if I try to fix it, without clear direction… I will make things worse.

You’re 6 years older than me. You’re not a dead yet.

Just go to Appearance > Themes and Activate it. If you can you should do this in staging though.

    Thread Starter scriptsbywarren

    (@scriptsbywarren)

How do I do it in staging? Are you talking about activating Storefront… as I think I already did that.

    Thread Starter scriptsbywarren

    (@scriptsbywarren)

Ok… I think I got staging figured out.. I opened a staging site… Storefront seems to be already activated… so I. just checked and the description appears for a second and disappears… so no change… but then, is Astra still running? I don’t know how to deactivate that. I guess now that I am in staging I can play with it…

    Stef

    (@serafinnyc)

You did and it’s not showing still. So it must be an app. So now revert back to Astra and deactivate each app until it shows

    Thread Starter scriptsbywarren

    (@scriptsbywarren)

I can only find Astra in one place and it doesn’t appear to be activated… so, question: if I activate a new theme (Storefront).. does that automatically replace Astra?

    Thread Starter scriptsbywarren

    (@scriptsbywarren)

I think the guy at Host Gator already tried that… he said he checked every plugin. That’s the apps, right?

    Stef

    (@serafinnyc)

So now revert back to Astra as I stated and go Deactivate each app one at a time. Keep one browser page open and another of the single product and refresh the page after deactivating each one until the description shows.

Yes, app / plugin, same thing. I refuse to call them plugins for religious reasons

Should I keep it in staging as I do all this?

    Stef

    (@serafinnyc)

well, it sounds like the site didn’t crash so there’s no need for our staging environment now. but it’s always good to have to tinker around with. Just make sure that it’s blocked by bots in a maintenance or something.

Well, I checked all 19 plugins… nothing changed.
