• Went to work on creating new site on my Mac (using Avada theme template by Theme Fusion) and dashboard was gone. Noticed new versions of Mamp and WP were available. Installed Mamp 3.1- still no dashboard. Trying to figure out how to easily install WP 4.1.1 but need a university degree to figure it out (backed up my database but confused on what to do next). Don’t even know if that will solve the problem. Can anyone help a novice?!!!

Correction. When I go to local host:8888, the theme and pages I’ve already created appear but there is no WP interface visible whatsoever so I cannot modify, add pages, etc. So I cannot automatically update to latest WP version 4.1.1. Confused on how to do it manually without losing settings and what I’ve already created.

I like MAMP and I understand you have the latest version of MAMP. My suggestion would be to download a fresh copy of WordPress and have those files overwrite what you have in the htdocs for that site you are working on locally. Make sure you just overwrite the folders OTHER than wp-content.

I tried as you suggested but no change.
I’ll try and describe the problem more accurately and indicate what I’ve also tried:

I’m currently building a site using Avada. The entire WP interface including the dashboard have completely disappeared. The pages I’ve already customized and all of the Avada demo pages are all visible and working but without the WP interface I cannot continue. I’ve tried the following:
    1. Downloaded and installed latest versions of Mamp (3.1) and WP (4.1.1) – no change.
    2. Removed Mamp and WP and did a clean reinstall of both Mamp and WP again – no change. Even tried to create entirely new site and database – no interface.
    4. Removed again and copy/pasted backups of Mamp 3.0.7.3 (including database) and WP 4.1 which I created last week – still no change.
Still see all pages working but no WP interface so I cannot do any modifications.
Is there a way to turn the interface on/off that I have inadvertently clicked on? If yes, where is it?

Maybe this free software will make all this way way easier for you: DesktopServer as this will not give you a headache like MAMP can give people sometimes.

Thanks for your help. I final got it working last night.

Somehow it appears I was logged out of WP but I was still able to see and navigate the site I had been working on. I don’t understand enough to know why. I then assumed there was something wrong with WP.

Thanks again for taking the time.

Ah that’s weird. At least it is working now. ??
