• I am using 1.5.2 of WordPress and have had it setup for a few months now. However, I am trying to add a new category for posts called Diggnation. Even though I already have at least one story in the new section, WordPress will not display it under the categories section. How can I resolve this issue?

Also, when viewing my site in IE 6, my sidebar does not look right. Can anyone help me with this as well?

You can view the URL of the WordPress blog at https://www.rutherfordfamily.net

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • I’m grabbing it now (dialup, so is s l o o o w w w …. *laughing*)….

I’ll try to get back to you tomorrow on it. I have a format drive/install OS and programs in the morning, 50 miles round trip, after that I’ll see what I can see. I’ll email you, and post here too….

    Moshu has noted this earlier.

In your sidebar that I can see, there is a area called ‘Blog Links’. There are 4 links in it. The top of that area will – in your sidebar.php – look like this:
    <br /><div class="title">Blog Links</div>

Immediately under that, there is nothing on your blog.
But View Source shows more code:
    <!--This returns all links from within WordPress<a href='https://www.rutherfordfamily.net/?cat=6'>Devotional</a><br />
    <a href='https://www.rutherfordfamily.net/?cat=28'>Diggnation</a><br />
    <a href='mailto:[email protected]'>E-Mail Emily</a><br />
    <a href='mailto:[email protected]'>E-Mail Kaleb</a><br />

    Note the Diggnation link.
The pastebin url you gave has expired so I can’t see the code you are using. What theme are you using, where did you get it and what have you changed ? The link you have in the footer leads to a site where I cannot see a downloadable theme.

If you can, pastebin your sidebar again ?

The code in the sidebar that brought up the manually entered categories was something I used to add diggnation instead of the default wordpress code. It is commented out because I decided to not use it.

I am using the WordPress side of the Clean theme located here:
    https://wpg2.ozgreg.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=575

I can post the code if needed for the sidebar. But it is the same exact code that calls the categories that the default theme uses.

Commenting out a PHP code like this <!--out--> it will stop it from displaying but the code is still executed! That’s why asked several times to delete it.

On the other hand if those categories are not showing up even when using the default or classic theme – there is something wrong with your install. I have seen a lot around here but never heard about “disappearing” categories.
Are you sure there isn’t a plugin that makes some categories invisible?

I may have already removed the code because it is not showing up on the sidebar.

Regarding the categories not showing up–even when using the default theme, any new categories I make do not show up. I reinstalled WordPress but it did not resolve this problem.

So I am going to do a complete clean install–to a new directory–backup my mySQL database–import–and start from scratch to see if the problem resolves itself.

I do not have any plugins installed that hide categories.

I used the zipped complete install he sent me, loaded it up on a test site online, and all his cats including Diggnation displayed. He didn’t send any plugins, but I didn’t get any of the infamous “missing plugin” sort of errors either.

As a further check, I added more than the 10 which actually display on his install to a couple of my other test wp installs, on two other servers. Both display more than 10 cats perfectly well.

I did send kahleeb some fairly detailed instructions on backing up database and reinstalling etc.

Well, I killed my entire install, emptied the mySQL DB, and added everything back together. Was it a headache? Yes. Did it work? Yes? Could I have done it without vkaryl’s help? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

V absolutely rules and now my site is working perfectly. We may never know what got messed up but I appreciate all of your help on this issue. When all else fails, yell for vkaryl to come help you out =)
