    Hi there,

My webiste exprienced issues with the layout after the last WordPress update (5.5). It looks fine when I’m signed in the WP dashboard, but not when I sign out.

The issues are related to tabs, image responsiveness and some blocks disappeared completely from both mobile and desktop versions. I’m using a Ocean WP child theme and Elementor on my webiste.

I have restored the previous WP version and all works well now. How can I update to 5.5 and avoid the inconveniences?

    Thank you,
    Cezarina.

  • Hi Cezarina,

Could you please send me an example of your issue? do you see any errors within your browser’s console log?

Could you let me know which server your site is based on?

    Hi David,

Thanks for getting back to me. My hosting is on Siteground. All servers are using Linux based (Fedora 29) and they are configured to work with both Apache and Nginx.

I’m afraid I’m just a newbie and have no idea where to look for the errors in the browser’s console log. ??

I can run the update and search for them if you tell me where I can find them.

I’m using a Ocean WP child theme that might not be compatible with the new WP version?

    Version: 2.2.6

    Requires WordPress: 4.6 or higher
    Compatible up to: 5.4.2

    Thnaks again.

    Hi Cezarina,

If you try temporarily switch to Hello theme. Do you manage to solve this issue?

@davidr90 Can I do that without jeopardising my website???
I simply install it and activate it and all my Ocean WP child theme setting will migrate to Hello? Is that reversible in case it doesn’t work?

    Thanks

I faced the same issue after upgrading to WordPress 5.5. I am not able to see the button Edit with Elementor after the upgrade.

This is how I got it fixed!
    1. Went to Plugins > Add New
    2. Searched for Classic Editor
    3. Installed the Classic Editor plugin.
    4. I can now see the Add with Elementor button again.

    Hope this helps!

I’m with you, Elementor is not working with WordPress 5.5 and I have the latest version installed. all of my pages are looking in blank or not showing images.
I DON’T want to change themes, so what can we do?
This is affecting a lot of us now…

    Hi everyone!
Anyone having this problem? After the update, my “blog post title” box is gone, I can’t click on any of the “standard, audio, aside, chat…” tabs on top, I can’t click on the Screen Options & Help tabs on the top as well.

Anyone know how I can fix the “blog post title” box? I can’t post a thing.

    thanks!

    Hi Cezarina,

The design may change temporarily but should return to the same design once you switch back to your theme.

You can do that easily via WP Dashboard > Appearance > Themes. Install Hello theme, and activate it.

For caution, you may create a backup to your site, before temporarily changing your theme.

Let me know if it worked for you.

@denydz pointed it well. Enable jQuery Migrate Helper will fix the problem.

Thanks @denydz and @andreea777. I restored to the previous version of WP and that solved the problem for now. I don’t see the point of installing another plugin that would only solve the problem temporarily until the developers figure out a permanent fix. In this case I’ll postpone the WP 5.5 for a while, maybe it will get adjusted and work properly soon.

@davidr90 Thanks for your reply. I will try that if there is no other alternative in the next couple of weeks. I doubt switching from one theme to another is that easy, especially for a newbie. I’m also using the blog feature of Ocean WP and I don’t know how that would display once I switch to Hello.

Well, I just did the plugin. It worked once but when I refreshed. I got the message, “There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin inbox for instructions.”

I haven’t gotten an email yet.
    Anyone suggest anything?

    thanks,
    Mike
