Misplaced tags in code

Hi, I was searching for solutions to problems unrelated to Recent Posts with Excerpt plugin, which led me to looking at source code of pages. I found that there was un-closed tags:
</a></small></p>Coming from line 113 of the PHP file. Problem is, I can’t see what’s wrong with it there, but something seems to be… browser catches it as un-closed tags. At least that’s how it shows up in my page:
